NAME: Marlon V. Dedal
AGE: 20
SCHOOL: Mapua Institute of Technology / Dept. of Multimedia Arts and Sciences
AWARD: Silver Medalist, Cum Laude
1. What awaits you in the real world?
It is all thanks to Mapua that I am living the dream I always wanted. Art and design has always been a part of me and knowing that I can contribute something to the “real world” by simply doing what I love most is just pure happiness beyond compare. I think my life in the “real world” is going to be fun and exciting. Most people think that art and design is just synonymous to playing, that they do not consider it as a career. But maybe, they are just having difficulty of seeing what lies beyond that playing, that Mapua and I can already see. Yes, we play. We play with hues and shapes. We play with words. We play with pixels till they look pretty. We play with available resources till we satisfy ourselves. But in the end, we create new things, things that can bring small or big change to the world. Art and design, now aided by technology, is an important component that will complete every industry. I am going to be the cherry on top of an ice cream sundae, or a piece of a jigsaw puzzle, so small and yet so important.
2. The most impressive thing about your resume is?
Aside from the aforementioned accolade of awards and all the other things listed there, I think what I am most proud of is the fact that I was able to represent myself through effective use of design and layout. I just have to prove on that piece of paper why I deserve to be the silver medalist and cum laude, and that is something that cannot be done using words or numbers. The funny thing about artists is that they have this strong sense of freedom to tweak almost all the nitty-gritty of things without overdoing it. Even on important documents like resumes. So now, mine looks absolutely creative, professional, and it shows a clear picture of me as a designer.
3. Why do you deserve your award?
As mentioned earlier, words are not enough to prove why I deserve these awards. But probably it is mainly because I worked really hard to win the prize. If to borrow Newton’s Law of Motion, for every action, there is always equal and opposite reaction. I also believe that everything is possible with passion and belief, and people could see that radiating from me: my family, my professors who gave me good grades for my works, and my classmates who wanted me to take lead in every project. So loving my course and believing that I really got what it takes to win and prosper served as the key reasons why I really excelled. In addition, I always aim to be at the top because I am tired of being just another face in the crowd. Maybe that is just the way how artists live, they have this need to be heard and be visible.
4. How will you be of service to your country?
I am looking forward to a lot of things now that I graduated. Of course, there will be a lot of firsts: to see my first billboard design in EDSA, my first edited TV commercial, to launch advertising campaigns with happy and satisfied clients, take criticisms from my future colleagues and other multimedia experts, and who knows, maybe someday direct my first box-office film orteleserye and touch the lives of Filipinos. I hope that my chosen industry will appreciate everything that I serve on the table. Of course it will be hard to accomplish everything, but I am really praying that I can carry out these things eventually.
What the hell is wrong with my freaking hand?!?
Am I suffering from technical difficulty or something? XD?
I used to draw a lot of things before. And when I say lot, I mean… really LOT!
But now, it appears that lack of practice has gotten the best of me. Ugh!
It feels like I can’t draw anymore… Look at Adele. Hala!
I even sabotaged Mommy Ruth’s face. Unintentionally, of course.
Including me and acomicaday… Hohoho
Anyway, what’s done is done.
It’s the thought that counts right?

Sa bagay… I think u should go with something you’re comfortable/confident with? After all, ikaw magdadala niyan saka “identity” mo yan. Ikaw lng nakakaalam kung ano ka tlga. XD
- Ruth Buenaventura (my school mom)
She’s right. It’s me, above all else, who should decide on what name to use. I can’t believe how straightforward she was when she pm-ed me this. Her advice reminded me of the quote, “If you truly own who you really are, nobody can ever use you against you.”
And I agree!I’d rather settle this thing by myself than dragging other people. Whatever happens, at least the decision was solely and absolutely mine. After days of deliberation and mental arguing, I finally arrived with a decision. Followers, are you ready?
On behalf of Marmurs, I am more than pleased to present to you my other half… Mr. \m/. Cheers!
